What Is It?
A 29-amino-acid peptide with a D-retro-inverso modification — the sequence is reversed and built from mirror-image amino acids. Published in 2017 in the journal Cell. Designed to selectively eliminate senescent ("zombie") cells.
How Does It Work?
Senescent cells are like guests who won't leave the party. They stop dancing, stop helping, but won't go home. Your body has a built-in way to ask them to leave — but they jammed the door. FOXO4-DRI is the bouncer. It disables the FOXO4-p53 complex that keeps senescent cells alive. Healthy cells don't have this complex, so the peptide walks right past them. Selective elimination.
Primary Benefits (research suggests)
- In aged mice: fur regrowth, increased treadmill distance, kidney function recovery, testosterone rebound
- Only targets zombie cells — leaves healthy cells untouched
