What Is It?
A 7-amino-acid peptide engineered for the brain. Built from tuftsin (a natural immune messenger from human antibodies) with a Pro-Gly-Pro stability tail added. Developed at Russia's Institute of Molecular Genetics in the 1990s. Approved in Russia since 2009.
How Does It Work?
Benzodiazepines pull the brake on your nervous system. Anxiety drops. So does everything else — alertness, memory, motor control. Selank touches the same brake without slamming it. It modulates GABA-A receptors from a different angle — enough to calm the system, not enough to stop it. Calm without the fog. Also upregulates BDNF in the hippocampus, inhibits enkephalinase, and provides anti-inflammatory CNS effects. Intranasal delivery crosses the blood-brain barrier in minutes.
Primary Benefits (research suggests)
- Three pathways (GABA, BDNF, enkephalins)
- Russia-approved — 62-patient trial showed effects comparable to benzodiazepines with added cognitive benefit
- No sedation, dependence, or withdrawal
